This vase is made using the yakisugi technique and adheres to the Wabi-sabi philosophy Yaki means to heat with fire and sugi is cypress. In the West it is referred to as burnt wood veneer and also known as Shou Sugi Ban. By slightly carbonizing the surface of the wood without burning the entire piece, the wood becomes impermeable through carbonization and is therefore more resistant. Also this vase ermeated by the Wabi-sabi philosophy. Wabi-sabi constitutes a Japanese worldview, or aesthetic, founded on the acceptance of the transience and imperfection of things. This is view, sometimes described as "imperfect, impermanent and incomplete beauty". Totally sustainable and natural work: I only use natural materials. Made from pine wood.
